Dr. Jessica M. Szczuka, head of the INTITEC Early-Career Research Group at the Research Center for Trustworthy Data Science and Security and a research associate in the Department of Computer Science, has been admitted as a new member of the Young Academy. The institution supports outstanding early-career researchers and artists in interdisciplinary exchange.

Under the theme “Designed for Humans – The Future of Human-Computer Interaction,” the School of Computer Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen, in collaboration with Fraunhofer IMS, invites you to Computer Science Day on September 29, 2026. A first for the University of Duisburg-Essen: For the first time, the Duisburg campus took part in “Extraschicht”—the Night of Industrial Culture. Together with the Fraunhofer inHaus Center, the Faculty f Computer Science presented current research, innovative technologies, and interactive hands-on activities for visitors.

The RIS Talents program, a joint initiative of the University of Duisburg-Essen and the School of Computer Science, will launch with the start of the 2026/2027 winter semester. This one-year support program is aimed at highly motivated bachelor’s and master’s students in Business Informatics, Computer Science, and Business Administration, offering them the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience and establish contacts with leading companies in the Rhine-Ruhr region.

Dr. Thorsten Kimmeskamp and computer science student Kaan Demir presented an interactive experiment at “Extraschicht” that brings distributed systems to life in a vivid way.

At the kick-off meeting at the Institute for Sustainable and Autonomous Maritime Systems (INAM), the first steps were taken toward the participation of an interdisciplinary student team in the “Njord Autonomous Ship Challenge” hosted by the Technical University of Trondheim.

In the series “Research Fascinates!”, the University of Duisburg-Essen introduces doctoral candidates and their projects. Hannah Logemann has been pursuing her Ph.D. since July 2025 in the research group “Psychological Processes of Education in Social Media” at the School of Computer Science.
